Why Five Years of Testing Is a Feature, Not a Failure

Stress-Free Multi-Dog Walking Through Design

Originally written: 02 December 2019

By December 2019, we have been building and testing MyHerculead for over five years, completing more than 38 physical iterations in pursuit of a design that meets our safety, usability, and durability standards.

This isn’t hesitation.

This is discipline.

Why We Refuse to Rush

Most consumer products fail not because they’re poorly made — but because they’re poorly validated.

At The Hartful Company, we believe:

  • You build as soon as the problem is sketched.

  • You test to uncover failure modes — not theorize about them.

  • You refine until safety is boring.

MyHerculead isn’t delayed — it’s being engineered properly.

The Difference Between Ideas and Systems

An idea is a feature.

A system is behavior over time.

We aren’t designing a leash — we are designing a walking system that can:

  • Manage independent movement

  • Maintain balance under load

  • Prevent escalation during chaos

  • Stay intuitive under stress

That kind of design doesn’t come from inspiration — it comes from patience.

Looking Ahead

As 2020 approaches we are confident in one thing:

When we finalize our MyHerculead design, it won’t be a guess — it will be an answer.

And that’s how we prefer to invent.
